PRRS serology: A critical component of the diagnostic workup
نویسنده
چکیده
Diagnostic notes are not peer reviewed ince the development of the indirect-fluorescent antibody (IFA) test in 1992, serologic profiling has been extremely valuable in improving the understanding of PRRS virus (PRRSV) patterns of transmission within infected farms. The IFA test detects IgG antibodies and indicates infection, not protection. IFA titers are initially detected 7–10 days post-infection and persist for up to 3–4 months. Recently, an ELISA test has been developed. It too measures IgG; however, ELISA antibodies are not detectable until 9–10 days post infection and persist for longer periods (at least 5–6 months). Both tests appear to be very useful when initially profiling an infected herd.

Nucleocapsid protein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for detection and differentiation of antibodies against European and North American porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus.
Two types of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) have been reported, the European type (EU PRRSV) and the North American type (US PRRSV). We developed a dual enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of serum antibodies directed against either of the two PRRSV types. This tandem PRRS ELISA is based on affinity-purified r...

Despite early attempts to control the spread of the disease, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) has now become endemic in many countries including Britain. The occurrence of subclinical herd infections, the prolonged circulation of virus within herds and probable aerogenic virus spread all mitigated against the success of control measures. The origin of the disease is unknown ...
متن کاملLaboratory diagnosis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus infection
The Committee thanks Dr. Sagar Goyal for editorial assistance. Summary: Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a relatively new, economically important disease of pigs and is characterized by reproductive failure in sows and gilts, pneumonia in young growing pigs, and an increase in preweaning mortality. The PRRS virus (PRRSV) was initially isolated in the Netherlands and the U...

The commercial ELISA kit (IDEXX HerdCheck PRRS) has been the main serodiagnostic tool for PRRS virus (PRRSV) in North America and many pig producing regions throughout the world. Although the kit has been mostly a reliable test for detecting PRRSV exposure at the herd level, the specificity of the kit has been frequently challenged by the occurrence of unexpected false positive results at varyi...
متن کاملOnm-12: Recommendations for the Sexuality Counseling and Management Strategy in Couples with Infertility
Sexuality and the wish for a child are strongly interrelated. Infertility drastically affects the sexual lives of individuals with Infertility and their partners which are often underreported and under-diagnosed. This is even worse in those societies where reproduction is a seminal outcome of sexual encounters. However patients may feel that sexual problems in the context of infertility are not...
